I had a great time at pee-wee weekend. I really loved playing with the big ball, the hoola-hop game, swimming, playing with my new friend Sydney and spending some great time with my mom. Miss Holly and Miss Dawn were so much fun. We played lots of games ate great snacks. The Bible classes talked about Jesus and the places He visited. Minlie Glover
Camp is so much fun I loved it last year (10-11year olds). Don Brown
WKYC has made a great impact on my life. Especially teen week, you not only have a great staff that is there for you whenever you need them, but you meet new people that go through the same things you go through in life. Teen week helps you come over a lot of those temptations that you under go as a teen. I just want to say thanks to all of the people that make camp possible. And a special thanks to all the camp directors. Especially Alan Bush teen week wouldn't be teen week without you. And to Steven Rogers for letting me be able to work your week. Being a staff member was one of the greatest experiences ever. Also thanks for every one that is evolved in camp. Camp is truly one of the best places you can be. IN HIM ALWAYS, AMF
Camp is absolutely one of my favorite places to be. I couldn't imagine what my life would be like without it. I have been attending camp since I was 8 and this year is my last. Next year will be so hard for me because I won't be there to share God with all of you. I would like to thank everyone who has helped me directly or indirectly with my walk with Christ. All of you staff have helped me grow so much. I would also like to thank my brother, Shaun, for always being there for me and baptizing me when I was 14. I have always looked up to him for guidance and strength and if it weren't for him, I probably never would have even attended camp. I will miss you guys next year. Have a great week at camp. RJT
I went to WKYC from 1985-91 as a camper and from 92 to 94 as a counselor. I was so glad to find this website. (Hi Kenny, the site looks great!) Although it did make me sad, looking at all the pictures. It's been nine years since I stepped foot on that campground, but it's like yesterday. I can still see everything and everyone and in my mind's eye, they're still so young! It's a shock when I see the campers and counselors I knew then, everyone got old! Why I loved and still love WKYC? the entire atmosphere, the excitement of going down that gravel road and seeing camp for the first time in a year; the LAUGHTER, playing ping pong, sitting in the old dining hall; playing volleyball and wink; the 4th of July hike; mad myrtle's. I was baptized there in 88, by Kenny, I'll never forget it. There's too much I love about WKYC, it would be more than 32 million words. If you're a camper reading this, or a counselor, DON'T TAKE IT FOR GRANTED! Life gets in the way sometimes, or in my case marriage and 3 babies. I pray that one day soon I can go back to camp as a counselor, maybe in a couple of summers, God willing, when the babies are older. Until then, I'm there in my heart every summer. --Amy Gilbert Rhea. (alrhea@omuonline.net)
I was invited to this camp about 5 years ago. When I arrived I was unaware of how this one-week would change my life forever. The love and fellowship that I received brought me back the following week as a youth counselor. Since that year I have made every attempt to come back and give to others what the lord blessed me with. Unfortunately I may not be able to this year. I am in the Navy and currently stationed overseas. I know that I will miss the camp more than anything I have every in my life. Thank you all for the love and friendships over the years. Hey I attended teen week 2003,It was GREAT! It was my first time at teen week, although I went 12-13yr old week. I did not stay the whole time when I went to the 12-13yr old week, I left on Wednesday. I'm GLAD to say I stayed all week during teen week. I have never had so much fun in my life! It was worth the stay! There is so many NICE people there that cares about the campers! I'd like to say a special thank you to some people: Alan Bush for letting us come and stay for the week, t he cooks that provided us with the YUMMY food, Craig for being there for me and along with other campers, Dustin Welch for being a great help to me (I love ya Dustin), Scott for teaching such a wonderful class (it helped me out alot), Kenny for being so cool and at the same time being a good devo leader!, Garret for always making me and everyone else laugh till we thought we were going die (I love ya), DD for being so cool and down to earth (your the greatest), TJ and Landon for being so enthusiastic even when we were SO tired! Beth for being such a good counselor (I love ya), all the counselors for being so nice to me and not judging me by my outside appearance but getting to know me first, and last but not least all the campers who have supported me as I have had a rough time and have been my friends. If I left out anyone...I'm sorry but there is so many GREAT and WONDERFUL people there I am just overwhelmed with them being GREAT! If anyone is looking into a camp to go to this the greatest camp ever...and I'm not just saying that! I have gotten closer to god at this camp. It is the best way to have fun and praise god at the same time. even if you can't stay all week just come out and visit sometime and hear us sing. the singing is GREAT! I will never forget you guys! oh- yeah and I WILL be back the retreat and in 2004! I'm looking forward to it! I LOVE ALL YA'LL Your Friend, Jessica Cover-Benton church of Christ
I met PJ at camp. He was my "Ninja Man". He was amazing. Athletic, nice, spiritual. I won't forget PJ. God works in ways I don't understand, and I'm not sure I'll ever understand why he took such a great guy from us, but I hope I can see through it. I miss him already, and he was gone just yesterday. We sing the song Someday. Someday I'll see you again PJ. Rest in peace my friend. My brother. RIP PHILLIP J. "PJ" CROOM JUNIOR DIED OCT. 4, 2003. -zb
It is impossible to explain the feeling WKYC gives to its campers. Born to American missionaries in Taiwan, I grew up in a city with 2 million people. A few years ago when I was 17, after being 10 years abroad I went to WKYC with a Taiwanese friend. It was so wonderful that never once have I not been emotional when I see the letters WKYC. Two phrases explain it best, “God fearing love” and “an experience like no other.” I did not know anything about the camp when I arrived, but now I think the world needs to know. Jason E. Thank you for all the prayers, kind words and help given since the loss of P.J. I do have a favor to ask. As you prepare for camp this year and look over your pictures from years gone by, espcially teen retreat 2003, if anybody has a pictures you wouldn't care to share particulary of P.J. in that hat, we would love to have a copy. He wasn't big on having his picture made, and we thought we'd manage to catch him off guard and get one, but it didn't work like that. Laura Croom, 165 Oakhurst Circle, Cadiz, KY 42211 or LauraF.Croom@ky.gov Thank you again for all you've done. Christian camps and Christian colleges are some of greatest experiences young Christians can have. Thank you again for all you've done. Some day, Zach, some day! Laura Croom
WKYC is truly a blessing for me. Being a single, young, Christian mother I am thankful for a place that my son and daughter can visit each summer to experience the joys of Christ's love. The activites are what camp is all about and the continued studies of the Bible keep them reminded of God's plan for us all. Thank you for helping me 'train up my children in the way they should go and when they are old they shall not depart from it' (PROVERBS 22:6). May God continue to bless you all. In Christain Love, A. Riley (PHIL.1:3)
I've been going to camp for 9 years and each year I have more fun, find more Christian friends, and come even closer to God. If it wasn't for this camp I don't know how my life would have turned out. I just got back from Teen Week 2004 two days ago and had the best time of my life! To the staff, thank you for choosing to spend your time with a bunch of teenagers and, to the campers, thanks for being such good friends. --Seth B.
This year (2004) at 12-13 year old week we learned a song called "If I Don't Get to Heaven" and I was trying to teach it to my dad and my little 2 1/2 year old brother started singing it! Anyways, I love camp! It's a really great place to meet other Christian kids. It's the best place on earth! B.G.
I am a 35 year old mother of two girls, ages 6 & 9. I spent eight years at WKYC and still can find my name on the walls of cabins 3,4,5,7. It looks a little different than it used to. I ate in the old dining hall, swam in the old pool. Some things are the same like the effect it had on my older daughter lasts years. Her tears did not come when we left her or at any time during the week, but when it was time to go home. A year later she is packed and ready to leave after church tomorrow. My family thanks God for WKYC. Elizabeth Cothran mother of Taylor 9 and Samantha 6
Hi, This is Alex Mehr I am 9 yrs old and this is why I love camp! I just started going last year! I love WKYC because you learn more about God in more of a child way. I can understand it more! Also because you do lots of fun activities with the Lord included. WKYC is my FAVORITE camp! I love it!
I think that camp is so AWESOME!!! I look forward to it every summer..........and I think about camp often. I love the singing, swimming, Bible classes, late night studies, games, and everything that we do at camp. Camp is a great time to meet lots of new friends and to be reunited with old friends. I'm so glad that I attend camp, b/c I learn so much more every day that I am there. It's a great experience and I am glad I am a part of it. Hopefully one day I will get to be a counselor and help other kids to understand who God is..........and how important he is in our every day lives! I would just like to thank everyone who is a part of camp! In Christian love, Leisha M.
CAMP WAS THE FIRST THING THAT INSPIRED ME ABOUT GOD. YOU GET TO BE A KID, CHRISTIAN, AND FRIEND ALL IN ONE WEEK. YOU HAVE OLD AND NEW FRIENDS THAT WILL CARRY YOU THROUGH AND WILL ALWAYS BE THERE FOR YOU IN LIFE. I THINK COUNSELORS AND FRIENDS ARE THE BEST PART OF CAMP. CAMP IS THE RIGHT WAY TO GO !! I'M TRYING TO START BEING A CHRISTIAN EARLY AND THIS IS THE BEST WAY TO DO IT!!!!!I TRULY LOVE THIS CAMP AND WHAT IT IS THERE FOR. WITH CHRISTIAN LOVE, LIZ PAGE
I have been attending WKYC since I was 8 yrs old. When I became too old to be a camper, I joined the staff. 2005 will be my 17th yr of going to camp. I'm not sure if I can put into words what camp means to me or does for me, but 17 yrs in a row... something must be going right. I find that camp helps to reassure that I am not alone in the world. That I am not the only one who doesn't drink, or smoke, or do drugs, and that means a lot. Especially for someone who lives away from home and doesn't really have the influence of Christians around all the time. I look forward to camp every year. The first time I think about it, is on my way home from Teen Week on Saturday. I begin to think of next year and all the fun and good learning we will have. And I smile at all the good times that I just had with all the friends I had just made. So to sum it up...only those who experience camp knows what I'm talking about and if you can inspire just one person to come with you every year, I feel that we would have many, many more brothers and sisters in Christ. That is truly how powerful that place is. No worries, no troubles, no cares will you find there. And it teaches all of us how to carry camp in our hearts year round so that others may see what a Christian truly is. Thank you to everyone that has listen to my problems over the years. Thank you to those who have made me laugh and even those that made me cry for you know that those tears were from the heart and I wasn't crying for you in pain, but with you in rejoicing. May God bless each and everyone of us till the next time we meet. And if that next time be Heaven, all the better. In Christian Love, Kris Heath shortykh@hotmail.com Murray, Ky.
